Health and wellness are trending! Society is beginning to wake up and realize that personal health and wellness are up to them. Individuals can make a difference for themselves by making better choices about their diet, exercise, daily routine, mindfulness, and more. You have the power to allow 2023 to be the year of health! Focus on these seven areas mentioned below to reach a higher level of total health and wellness in your life.
Hydrate
One of the best things you can do for your body is to drink hydrating fluids, ideally water. Your body needs water to function properly. Studies show that over 75% of the nation is mildly dehydrated every day, meaning the majority of the population is not drinking enough water and are experiencing signs of dehydration. Dehydration inhibits the ability to think clearly and makes you sleepy. If you’re feeling thirsty, you’re likely already dehydrated. If there’s one goal you establish this year, make it to increase your water intake. It’s easy and effective in contributing to better health.
Stay Active
For general fitness, most adults should aim for 10,000 steps per day. However, it’s been recommended by the Mayo Clinic to aim for 7,000 to 13,000 steps in a day, depending on your current fitness status. It’s best to set a personal goal for yourself that’s based on your current daily walking or step pattern. The average American walks 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day or roughly 1.5 to 2 miles. Setting a goal to walk an extra 500 to 1,000 steps each day will increase your activity and help you reach your step goal in 2023.
Get More Sleep
Sleep is so important! We feel our best throughout the day when we have had a night of good rest. The CDC recommends adults get at least 7 or more hours of sleep a night. In 2023, try to set an earlier bedtime, eliminate screens an hour before bedtime, and avoid large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bed.
Make Healthy Food Choices
Your diet has a direct impact on how you feel and look. Take time to learn about healthier eating habits. Do your best to increase your daily intake of fruits and vegetables, and eliminate processed junk and fatty foods. You can set small and attainable goals every day to eat healthier, such as adding a vegetable to each meal or limiting your sugar intake.
Focus on Mental Health
Journaling each day can help you slow down and put your progress into perspective. Take time to write down your thoughts, goals, and accomplishments so far. This can help strengthen your mental health and grow a newfound appreciation for yourself, which is so important. Journaling is found to reduce stress and anxiety, decrease negative thoughts, and improve self-esteem and overall mindfulness.
Less Screen Time
Screens are distracting. Watching tv, scrolling on your phone, video games, and screens, in general, keep us from being productive. So if you plan to set and reach your health goals in 2023, then reducing the time you spend in front of a screen is going to help you get there!
Pick Up a New Hobby
It feels good to do something completely for yourself. If you’ve been wanting to start a new project or hobby, now’s the time! Whether you like crafting, woodworking, jogging, reading, dancing, or whatever, it can contribute to your health and wellness journey of 2023. Pick up a new hobby that you’re interested in and discover something new about yourself!
It’s time to take control of your own health. Once you begin your health journey you will feel better, look better, and be happier! Don’t wait, let us help you get there!
